Being an enthusiast about afternoon tea, every city that I travel to, I like to seek out their best tea houses and tea salons. In New York City there are definitely alot to choose from, depending on your mood.
Alice’s Tea Cup, on the UES (upper east side) is charming old brownstone converted into a tea house. There are 3 locations, but i’ll be talking only about the UES one. Reservations are recommended since they are very busy with party bookings. Noise levels are very high since on both times that I was there, kids and parents alike were very loud.
A great selection of teas….I loved their Curious French toast…which was actually French toast that was soaked in maple syrup and a apricot brandy tea (i think), baked, then topped with a little clotted cream and mixed berry toppings. Very delish!
I also love to go to Mariebelle’s Chocolates in Soho for their delightfully rich and luxurious hot chocolate, done the European way…without any milk.
They also have a location on Madison Avenue on the 2nd floor. Great place to get some yummy chocolate and tea tin souvenirs from NYC since their signature blue boxes are adorable.
Do you have any favorite afternoon tea houses in your city that you’d like to share with us?
